Make Fun and Creative Gifts for Your LDS Missionary Care Package

Favorite idea #1

If your missionary is serving in a foreign mission, sprinkle your letters with words written in the dialect of the country they are in. It'll give them a boost to know that you made the little extra effort to be creative and learn a little bit about the language they are immersed in.

We've discovered a fantastic english-japanese online dictionary at www.englishjapaneseonlinedictionary.com

Favorite idea #2

Send them mini missionaries and reminisce while you write out the lyrics to our favorite missionary primary song, "I Hope they Call me on a Mission". Write it on a card or little homemade booklet to accompany the mini missionary.

I Hope They Call Me on a Mission

I hope they call me on a mission
When I have grown a foot or two
I hope by then I will be ready
To teach and preach and work as missionaries do

I hope that I can share the gospel
With those who want to know the truth
I want to be a missionary
And serve and help the Lord while I am in my youth

You can also include on the card/booklet a few personal memories of when your missionary was younger and what you noticed that they did to prepare themselves for what they are doing now (ie. kept a missionary piggy bank, faithfully attended seminary, studied, surrounded oneself with good influences, etc.) And of course, give lots of encouragement to keep up the good work and let them know how much you support them and love them.

(you can find a link to the mini missionary website on my links page - they're so cute...your missionary will love them!)

Favorite idea #3

Send chocolate hugs (from Hershey) and remove each of the paper flags and using white paper make your own flag that includes a special message (a little time consuming but, definately a labor of love and it makes opening the hugs more fun than actually eating them - if that's possible)

Favorite idea #4

For our Quarterly Activity, our primary had a missionary service project. We invited our ward missionaries to help and speak to the children about missionary work. We also sang missionary songs to get us in the mood. Then we went to the gym where we had stations set up where the primary children could work on items to send to missionaries serving from our ward. We wrote letters, made "thumb-body loves you" pillow cases, and included care package items with scriptures and fun sayings. We all had a good time remembering our missionaries. We ended with some healthy refreshments.
